Thank you all for joining us for today’s update on the lung injury investigation among people who use e-cigarette or vaping products. We are joined by CDC’s principal deputy direct, Dr. Schuchat, who will provide today’s update.

CDC today announced the updated number of cases* of e-cigarette, or vaping, product use associated lung injury (EVALI).

Outbreak of Lung Injury Associated with E-Cigarette Use, or Vaping

As of August 27, 2019, 215 possible cases of severe pulmonary disease associated with the use of electronic cigarette, or e-cigarette, products, have been reported by 25 states and additional pulmonary illnesses are under investigation.

Today CDC announced that 530 people have experienced lung injuries associated with the use of e-cigarette or vaping products. CDC has received complete sex and age data on 373 cases. CDC Telebriefing: New Vital Signs Report At least 5 of the top 10 leading causes of death are associated with Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs): What can be done to reduce negative health outcomes caused by ACEs?

According to the latest CDC Vital Signs report, 14 negative long-term social and health outcomes in adults are associated with Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs). Preventing ACEs could potentially reduce chronic diseases, risky health behaviors, and socioeconomic challenges for adults.
